User Interface Design
Don’t judge a book by it’s cover—or a website, for that matter. The fact is that there are some very attractive websites out there that are completely ineffective at selling anything.
The reason these pretty sites sometimes don’t work is because page layout matters when it comes to consumers and their predictable patterns. In other words, it needs to be a user-friendly interface design.
Here are a few tips to make your business’s website not only nice to look at, but practical and effective:
- Less is more. Too many elements on a single page (content, graphics and “boxes”) will overwhelm a visitor to your site. Opt for the least amount of stuff to simplify the experience. Hint: The average eye will start at the top left and move down the page.
- Color matters. Leverage color to grab attention, especially in areas where you are selling something. Don’t waste a bold color on navigation bars (unless you’re highlighting a special tab), for example. Take the time to create a color strategy for maximum effect and then mock it up to ensure that your color choices are appropriate and simplified in the right way.
- Call to Action. Have at least five people evaluate your layout and give their honest opinions about how it looks. Be sure to ask them where their eye goes first on the page and what action they are inclined to take as a result. Remember that the strategy behind the site is for someone to take action. If someone does not take action in response to the site, then they are not a consumer. Action steps for the consumer are the end goal.
- Content Matters. The text on your site should be engaging and easy to read. And of course… if you’re struggling to find the time, or to find your voice… Rhythm of Life provides content writing that invites readers to take action. Give us a call!
